The feasibility of automatic control of conventional steam-propulsion systems using digital control techniques was studied by simulating a DLG-9 class automatic steam-generation system on both general-purpose analog and digital computers.
Digital algorithms, developed to provide the control functions previously supplied by continuous controllers, successfully controlled the simulated. The study creates the main steam system model which includes the main steam pipes, devices and connected system based on PIPENET software following the engineering data by a third generation nuclear power plant.
The study takes the advantage of the transient mode in PIPENET to simulate the steam hammer phenomenon in the main steam system. Established techniques have been applied for modeling a once-through subcritical steam generator in an oil-fired MW(e) power generation system. The model was used to design a fuel controller which was implemented in the actual plant.
